Last week, Scarlet de Lemeny celebrated her birthday over brunch at a restaurant with her fiancé. It was a happy occasion, and that day, Scarlet was overwhelmed with other feelings, too.
“I had been crying,” Scarlet told The Dodo. “Birthdays are emotional for me.”
But as her tears flowed, a surprise visitor suddenly appeared.

In a flash, a little bird bumped into one of the restaurant’s large windows, coming to rest on the ground in a daze. Scarlet’s attention was immediately drawn to him.
“No one knew what to do, but I grew up with birds and love animals,” Scarlet said. “I wanted to help.”
As Scarlet approached the bird, he flitted up and landed on her hand.
“It only made me more emotional seeing how trusting the bird was of me,” Scarlet said. “He nestled onto my fingers and slept through my entire meal. I ate one-handed.”
Here’s footage from that moment:

After several minutes, the bird perked back up, fluffing his feathers and helping himself to some of Scarlet’s water.
Scarlet then found a safe branch to set him on.
